I am having some electrical work done to my home next tuesday. The power will be out for approx 3-4 hours. Will this be a major problem? Should i do anything special to prepare for this? I have a 45g fowlr tank, a false perk and bicolor angel and clean up crew in tank.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)
thanks,

I assume temperature will not be a problem. I don't know what type of filter and water movement equipment you have but you will want to keep the water moving for oxygen exchange. Get one (or two) of the battery powered air pumps and an air stone and run that while the power is out. Otherwise you could go to an uninterruptible power source (UPS) but you are talking some money there.
Some people also just manually scoop water out and pour it back in the tank to provide aeration.
At least you know when your power is going out!
Good luck!

Assuming that it would only be for 3hours max I wouldn't worry much about it. However I do agree that moving the water around a couple of times couldn't hurt. I would also clean any mechanical filters that you may have the day before or remove them until after the power has been restored and return them to the aquarium clean.

Thanks for the replys. I will take both your advice. I'm glad to know that will not be a major thing. I wil be at work, however, my wife will be home so i'lltry to talk her into circulating the water once in a while. I also will clean all machinical filters. I never thought of that, i suppose it could cause an ammonia spike if left dirty.
Thanks guys, :)

We out here in Ca. are used to having the power go out, I try to do what the others have said and just mix the water up by hand, and take some out and put it right back in. Also have you thought about asking one of your neighbors to plug a power cord into their house and run your tank off of that. Good Luck
