I ordered lights for my yearly maintence and they(not this site) sent me 2 of the same lights. I ordered the 32 watt SunPaq Dual Actinic 420/460 nm and the 32 warr SunPaq Dual Daylight 6700k/10,000k and they sent me 2 daylight ones.
So heres the ? How should I run my lights until my actinic one comes? I turn my actinic ones on at 7:00am and the daylight ones come on at 9:00. Then my daylight one goes off at 4:00 and my actinic I shut off around 6 or 7:00.
Do I just run the daylight one from 7 am to 7 pm? I don't know what to do.
Oh, yea, just after I ordered my lights, my atinic one blew, so I can't just stick it back in there.

Aren't actinics just for the blue light spectrum and not really helping corals? I could be very wrong but my impression is the acntinics are to help the color spectrum to be more appealing for us to look at the DT. I would just run your daylights from 9 to 4 as usual. Or maybe even shorten that since you have twice as much daylights wattage.

Personally, I've replaced my dual daylights with standard 10k daylight because the duals were causing cyano (I saw a post once implicating them and sure enough, the bulk of the cyano went away after swapping them out). It's probably best to switch them out one set at a time anyway so just send back the duplicate daylights and have them send the proper actinics. If your other existing actinics are still working in the meantime, although the working bulb is old, it'll do fine until they can ship the correct bulbs.
Edit: just noticed you said one was blown....I don't know if they'll be ok for that short amount of time while you get the replacement. Do you have a LFS that you can get a replacement from? The Daylight will always come in handy later on when you replace your bulbs again.

actinic light is actually useable light for coral photosynthesis, it seems to be a common misconception that the light isnt useable, if all we wanted was visual effect and didnt care about photosynthesis we would run the far cheaper black light bulbs as they make corals flouresce rather nicely but AREN'T usefull wavelenght of light.

My lights should be here today or tomorrow. I have been running the daylight ones from 7-4, but noticed an increase of algae on the glass. I hope they get here soon.
My tank looks ugly. well, maybe not ugly, but definitely not as pretty as it does with the actinic lights. My coral are all doing fine, so I guess that's the important thing. They don't really like being woken up with the daylight though. I guess it is a lot brighter, but oh well.
Thanks for the replys. I wasn't sure HOW important the actinic lights were and my LFS don't carry the ones I need.
