Need Help to save tank...PLEASE!!!

OK so my cannister filter blue up tonight. I decided rather than replace it to go ahead and get a wet/dry. I have installed the wet dry all is running well but i didnt know how to save my media. So i took nylon socks and filled them with my ceramic bio media from the cannister. Removed some of the bio balls and put that sock in its place. I then filled the other sock with the rest of the media and put that in the resevoir. Will this keep my media running and eventually transfer things to the balls. And also i would like to just use LR...is this possible to just replace bio balls with LR?
Any advice would be great as im freaking...

You still have all the bacteria in your tank...also with the stuff you saved I think you will be fine. No freakin' out...you'll scare the fish

You can replace bioballs with LR, issue is making sure you have a high enough water column to keep the rock submerged, as dry LR won't be live and won't do you any good. Personally I prefer the LR over the bioballs ~ much less maintanence.

actually i dont think you have to have the rocks submerged. my lfs has a wet dry on a small tank and the guy just placed a live rock where the water literally comes out from the tube and showers the rock. and its been like that for a good 3 years and runnin good.
btw how come your canister blew? what brand was it? how long have you had it ? maintenance? just wondering cause i have a canister myself haha.

this is embarassing......
Ok i had a window to clean my cannister of about 30 minutes while my kids napped. I rushed ( a no no ) spilt water onto my power strip..and blew up my cannister....
.
But now i have the wet dry whick i must say...
