ive noticed for about the last week or two ive had like a little snowstorm going on in my tank. thae water is clear but just white particulate flying around.
now i just got done reading an article or 2 on ph/alk/calcium saying how they are all related. and mentioned that say if you calcium is high then alk will be low and vise versa. and also when these lvls are out of balance it can create a snow storm effect.
so im thinking that this might be why i am having a snow storm so to speak,
however from my testing it seems that those rules do not apply if i understood them right.
ill have to test my ph again tomorrow since i have not done so in about a week but it is always around 7.8 to 8.0.
before feb 28th
mag 1170
kh/alk 13/4.8
calcium 512/524
on feb 28th my water was as follows
mag 1200
kh/alk 13/4.8
calcium 464/476
on march 5th
mag 1050
kh/alk 13/4.8
calcium 420
now unless i misunderstood if my alk is high my calcium would be low, now it does seem to be getting lower so to speak but it is about where it should be.
my alk doesnt seem to be changing and i was wondering how i could bring the alk lvl down to where it need to be like 7-9 area.
i dosed some magnesium today since it dropped so much but thats about it.
is there somehting i should be doing that im not?
ive done quite a few smaller waterchanges in my 28g over the last month, on average prolly 2 gallons each time mainly from aclimating.
other than that the only major change i notice to my tank is coraline algea seems to be forming at a nice rate the past 3-4 days.
i would think that my alk lvl would change but it seems to stay at 13 and i dont like it to be that high since i know it should be lower.

What you saw was your calcium precipitating from the alk being kind of high and the calcium high. 13 is a little high but you would be better off not dosing any buffer and let it come down naturally. small water changes will do little to change parameters. Also check and see what your fresh mixed salt water tests at. Maybe that is the problem. I don't really know since you have not posted what you are adding to your tank. You will want to bring your magnesium up. Instant ocean is notoriously low when it comes to mag.
