Hey guys I used to have a 55g tank with coral but its been forever since I have done it and never had to start from scratch (bought a used tank /w fish). What I currently have running is one powerhead and a Rena smartfilter 30 and the lights that came with the aquarium ViaAqua 18W x2 120v 60 Hz. Is this enough to hold coral an anemone and a few fish? If its not what type of lighting would you recommend? I am worried the light might not be enough. I currently do not have a heater in the tank. Its been consistently at a temp of about 72 degrees is a heater necessary? Also I started with a few pieces of dry reef rock and added a few freshwater mollies to get the tank acclimated. Should I just add liverock now or should I add that after I have went through a cycle? I have had it like this for about a week now. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

you should use live rock to cycle the tank. thats where the bacteria grow. a heater is necessary. constant temperature is key to stability. the light will probably only be strong enough for softies and most lps. imo, if you want an anemone and sps corals get a par38 20k led bulb which will insert into a regular lamp and that will provide you with lots of light for your tank size. its a 100$ lamp that will fit your tank perfectly
heres a pic of what it looks like

if you want more color choices look into the ledio LED bulbs.

Awesome thanks for the advise...I am going to do some research on the lights and hopefully going to get some live rock this weekend!
