I have an emperor angel that has some sort of fungus eating around his head and jawline. It has been going on for awhile but i thought he was just starting to change colors. Today i noticed he had trouble closing his mouth and my 3 spot damsel was attacking him. I pulled him out of my main tank and started treating him with ampicillin and dropped the salinity down to 12ppm. Is this the right thing to do or should I be doing something else.
THanks Dave

THanks for the help Carshark. I just read up and seen some pictures of HLLE and know thats what im dealing with. I read that increasing vegetation is the cure. Is what im doing know just stressing him out, or should i continue to treat him.

well looking at the disease threads and reading up on HLLE, i dont know that what you are doing is effective, yes i think it may be weakening him and stressing him out. look at the best cure for HLLE it will tell you waht to do.. get him to QT and start fresh with the proper treatment....good luck

HLLE does not require treatment in a QT tank. Some feel the cause of HLLE is unknown and others claim it is caused by poor water quality, stray voltage in the system, stress (many contributors), poor diet.
Take this list and review your system and feeding habits. Use a voltage meter to test for stray voltage. If you have voltage in your system unplug equipment one pece at a time until you locate the one contrbutor/faulty equipment. Remove, repair or replace.
HLLE is not contagious so there is no need to remove the animall. In fact, increasing stress is one thing you want to avoid with HLLE. Review the diet requirements for the animal nad make sure you are providing the proper nutrtion. Test your water parameters..all of them and make sure they are within acceptable lmits for the angel. Make sure the animal is not under stress ie system too samll, aggression, not enough hiding places, etc.
