need help with feather duster

A month ago my fether duster lost its crown. I am still waiting for it to get its crown back. Sometimes the opening of the tube opens up but nothing comes out. Most of the time the tube is closed. Is my feather duster dead? I have hermit crabs and they have not jumped on the fether duster tube yet. Which tells me that the duster is still alive. Whar do you think

I've had mine throw, then regrow it's crown. Mine didn't take a month to grow back though. If you touch the tube, normally you can feel the worm inside move. Maybe try that? Not a 100% way to see if it's alive or not, but it might help. Also, if the tube is opening and closing it probably isn't dead.
