need help with my live rock

my friend gave me live rock but i think it dead it has white stuff on it what would happen if i boiled it would it kill the die off so i can put it in my tank what should i do please give me step by step thanks

dont boil it.It might just need cured up a little.Just put it in a tub of salt water and give it water flow and a skimmer and let it be for a couple of weeks.Do a 50 % water change once a week.There is probley more life in the rock then you think.but that should bring it around.
