!!!!!!!!!!!!Need Help With New Tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi....i started with a freshwater tank and still have it.
About four months ago i decided to go with a saltwater tank.
i went to my lfs and bought a 56 gallon tank, i also bough everything that i needed to get the tank going. Now my tank has been up for about 45 days and have 3 demsels. The guy at the petstore told me it was okay to put delicate fish, and i got one but it die a few days after. I went back to the store and told me that sometimes fish just die. the guy doesn't know nothing!!!!!!Well i thought i did enough search before i started my tank but i guess you are always learning new things.
well now i know i have to wait till my tank cycles but how do i know when its time to buy delicate fish.???????
i have about 45 pound of live rock and how should i go about the brown algae?
i have done just one water change 20 percent of tank. petstore guy told me that one water change per month is good????

If you have 45 pounds of rock and damsels in there, the tank is most likely cycled. I don't know what delicate fish you had in mind, but very few typical "delicate fish" will be okay for a 56 gallon aquarium. The algae is just diatoms and normal for a new tank.
What fish did you have in mind?
When you bought the last fish, what was it? How did you acclimate the fish when you brought it home?
