Need help with QT!

Okay so I ordered a Blue Hippo from this site and it should be here tomorrow Im assuming. I have a ten gallon tank laying around and thought it might be good to QT this fish. I don't have time for it to cycle and I am trying to prevent it from cycling. If I use half of my display water and half of fresh saltwater, along with some established LR from my LR tank will this prevent a cycle? I have plenty of LR I can throw into the QT and figure the est water and LR will be good for the QT.
Also I was thinking just putting in a heater and powerhead. Is that good? Little advise please. New to the QT.

I was looking for a thread like that. So Im a little confused. If I use pieces of the LR and just a heater and powerhead, will this prevent a cycle? If there is no "die off" of any sort what would cause a cycle? I don't think anything. So well est LR and water from my dispaly should be fine correct?

You just have to have plenty of extra water on hand and stay on top of your parameters. If anything gets out of line, do a water change, even if you think it's "iffy", do a water change. This will prevent a full on cycle and ammonia spike that will kill the fish. I've done this, it will work, but you just have to be careful. Keep in mind, if you run hypo, the live rock needs to be removed. The same goes for if you have to treat with any medication.

Got it BTL. Yeah, Im gonna plan on doing a 50% water change every other day. Im gonna monitor this fish for a week or two at most. If its all good he's going in. Also the water changes I'm gonna do are just gonna be from my display tank. This way there will be no change going from one tank to the next.

Water from you DT is not going to aid in your bio filtration in your QT I would add some kind of mechanical filtration to your QT (small hang on back filter) I would add a product like prime to detoxify ammonia nitrate and nitrates.
You have waited this long to set up your tank I just don’t understand this quote

Cam,
You should probably read up on the marine ich life cycle as well as other parasites while you wait for your fish.
The more you know about the enemy the easier it is to combat it.
1-2 weeks may or may not show anything at all. It's not really beneficail to set up a QT but only use it half way towards its full purpose.

The Ideal Q tank setup:
Do not use any liverock! ! ! If u have to treat ich you will have alot of trouble using copper or formalin, as the rock will absorb the meds -making keeping a stable level, and it can leach back into main or DT tank system later on.....keep it simple, just like this - easy to clean, DARK places for the hippo to hide are good too (dark coffee cups/black PVC)....Most hippos will sleep on their side nestled under somthing when it's dark - which makes it tough to fight ich, as when the parasites leave a host, they fall to the bottom to multiply, and guess where Mr. Blue sleeps - on his side, right there....It's a good idea to break down totally and clean out the tank bottom with hot water&scrub with sponge every 4-6 days....
I have used this exact setup for 10 years and it workes perfect..I have a penguin 125 hang on filter/a little baby 201 powerhead/100w heater/and 20watt light......just have to cut open the plastic filter frames and remove the carbon if using meds for treatment.
I have a longnose butterfly and scooter blenny in this tank right now - they been in treatment for ich for 2+ weeks, and I no longer see signs, but will treat for 1.5 more....then put them back into same tank -with no meds, work slowly up to my DT salinity of 1.025, and monitor them for 2 more weeks. if no signs of disease/parasite remain, they will go into one of my 100g tanks. I started out using copper (coppersafe) but the ich was tough to kill off, so I started a dual treatment with copper & formalin....ich dissapeared within days. I do waterchanges every 2-3 days, bout 50% and retreat with copper&formalin afterwords.
hope this helps

Here he is - I didn't have a lid on this tank and a week ago - he jumped out and landed in the bathroom sink! ! ! He was in there for about 20-30+ minutes before I found him and dumped him backinto the q tank......he was almost a gonner! I have a cover on the tank now

The lights are off - so I took this with the bathroom light on and his color is a little off....The blenny sleeps hidden under one of the black coffee cups, and i'll never get a picture of him, but when lights are on - he sits perched on top of one of the coffee cups - checking things out.....cool to watch!
