Need HELP with tank decision

I am just getting into the hobby, but I've researched a lot. I am trying to decide betwen the new JBJ 28g 150W HQI nano cube and a different tank with IFS. The JBJ nano cube will cost $500 with everything. The IFS tank will cost (after purchasing lighting) about $700, but will be much bigger.
I plan on doing a reef tank (lots of coral) with a few fish and a lot of cool inverts.
I dont mind starting off small with the nano, but I know I will love it, so why not start big?? Im just looking for ANY and ALL insight into this decision.
I hate seeing the tanks with purple blotches all over and hair-looking stuff on the tank walls. Will either of these tanks be better for keeping clea?

Lots of people say bigger is better. I would get bigger because in this hobby you find a lot of people just wanting bigger tanks(like me).
The only thing i would say about keeping it clean is the smaller tank is a smaller area to clean. If you clean that glass before it gets out of control i think it will be fine.
