I am planning an upgrade for my skimmer, but have found that I am going to have a problem with the footprint if I use my current sump..right now I am using a wet/dry 300 that houses my current skimmer and some LR. any ideas?

how much room you got underneath?
consider buying a used tank on CL. I picked up a 55 gal for $20. Its a nice sump considering I spend about another $30 in silicon and glass.

Have you looked into I-tech skimmers? They use a cone-design which is really efficient and use some really top-shelf pumps. They are built right down I-10 in Tampa too. They are a little spendy, but not bad for cone skimmers. The pumps are all low watt, so the savings will be made up over time. I know a month of power consumption of the Mag 18 on my AquaC EV240 is about 10months of power with the I-tech pump. They are pretty short too, for your height requirement. Definitely my #1 consideration, whenever I get around to replacing my EV-240....
