Need info on DIY lighting

I am getting ready to add a 250 watt MH to my 44g tank. I would greatly appreciate any advice on the fabrication of the canopy because I have little knowledge of how to set it up. I understand how to build it I need information on different things I should incorporate into the design i.e.: fans, height above water, lamp placement, wiring.

You will need at least 6"(no less) from the bulb to the water....If you design it with an open back air circulation is gratly increased,and the need for fans will be less.But during the summer you may find a fan is needed,then just mount one or two in this opening...For the greatest access to the tank for feeding or working on the setup,a fully hinged top is the best way to go.Look at my canopy on my website.It is DIY.....
