Need input on my sump design

I don't think you need that many baffles on the right side, I think three should work fine, the one by the fuge from bot. of tank up to fuge level, the second one about 1" off the bottom of tank and the third same height as the first and all the way down to the bottom of the tank. that should take care of ant bubbles.

welcome to the boards!
so you have two small areas for the water to drain into the fuge on either side?
whats going on on the left side?
i dont see the need for the 4 baffles on the right. 3 per fuge are is a good standard that greatly reduces microbubbles.

I wasn't sure how many baffles would be needed, but pulling two out just gives me more room for the already small fuge.
the left side is the other drain with the baffles pusing the water through LR rubble.
and obviously a return pump in the center.

just a thought, but could you combine the two drains into one and feed in on the right side and pump out on the left, that would free up that much more room for the fuge, bigger the better on fuge size

on the first sketch I would take the first baffle out nearist to the supply on the right, and leave the other three, I think that would work better for trapping bubbles

lookin good I would add the one other baffle on the right like the first sketch, one other thing i would suggest, at your fuge baffles i would take the one closest to the pump and bring it down to the bottom of the tank and bring the height a few inches above you pump, just a short baffle, what happens is when your sump is low the water coming out of your fuge creates a waterfall effect down to the sump water and makes a lot of bubbles, this short baffle will help trap these bubbles before the go into your pump, I learned that lesson the hard way on my first fuge.

why are you using the LR rubble area? if you have a good amount of LR in your DT, its not needed at all. you can also put some more in your sump if you really wanted to.

Good question I was wondering that myself

I figured that more filtration couldn't hurt. and I wouldn't want whatever rubble that is leftover in my shipment to go in the display tank.

I agree, what I did to overcome the "waterfall" is raised the water level so that the water comming over the last baffle only drops a half inch. It's easy to do just add more water by decreasing water out or increasing water in. Good luck I think you are on the right track. One last thing, if you have the room I would drill the tank and put your pump on the outside. even if you don't plumb it that way now if you ever want to do it later then it's already ready to go, no need to tear it down later. Plus it lets you put a skimmer in the spot where the pump is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like this one that way you do not have all your flow going through your refuge...
IMO the slower the flow in the refuge the better your algae will grow

I already started building it close to the design of post #9, but with one more short baffle next to the return pump.
If I don't like is, I can just build another (10 gallon tank and glass peices = cheap)

I am anxious to get it all going, but I am currently waiting for my hole saws.
