What can I do to speed up the process to get some of the cool purple algae growing on my LR?

The cool Purple Algae your talking about is called Corraline Algae....i belive you just have to wait to see if your live rock forms it> I am no expert, just trying to give my little .02 that I know ..Lol:jumping:

I have also learned that you can lightly brush your existing purple coraline to spread spores. Now I just scrape it from the front and sides of my tank. When I first started I lightly brushed the coraline with a toothbrush. Also, make sure you keep good water conditions.

One of the most important things to get this purple stuff to spread is high Calcium levels. I would recomend keeping it between 425-450. Use Calcium supplements or dose Kalkwasser. You will also need some coraline in the tank to seed new growth. Also it takes time even months to spread but once it does it normally will be everywhere.
