35 gallon bow front, 30 pounds LR, LS, clean up crew etc., water quality fine, tank up for 8 weeks, cycled after approximately 3 weeks. All of a sudden my black cycle damsel developed ich, I was planning to return him to store anyway, they took him back to medicate and resell? Then clown developed ich and what looks like a fungus. Local expert said RO freshwater bath, then quarantine for approximately 5 days, using Greenex every other day for 3 days. This was done, clown looked great, acclimated back into tank, and boom 2 days later (yesterday), more ich spots. In reading articles in my fish magazine and reading these message boards, I guess I have the following left to do.
Mind you this is extremely frustrating, after 23 years of cichlids to start my 1st salt tank, get the water perfect and boom this!!
Anyway, the best method appears to take out the remaining fish (clown, dottyback and small cycle damsel), leaving the inverts, peppermint shrimp (2), Coral banded shrimp, anemone crab, hermits and snails behind and let tank stand fish free for approxiimately 30 days then slowly put fish back one at a time. IS THIS THE ONLY WAY?? OR ANOTHER WAY TO AVOID DOING THAT? Appreciate any help you can offer. CAN RAISING THE TANKS TEMP HELP, I read the lowering the salinity level help tremendously but I will lose inverts if I do that. Thank you.

I certainly appreciate the assistance. This is very frustrating, guess I'll have a shrimp, snail, hermit crab tanks for a while..lol

I was happy to hear about another fresh water hobbyist who was for a number of years. Finally giving a try at salt water. Then having the dissapointment of a ick break out.
I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Right now all of my fish are in a tank together, while the reef tank just has inverts.
Add a cleaner shrimp and some peppermint shrimp to your reef tank. It will be fun watching them for a month while the other fish are going through hypo.
Like I learned the hard way forget the medicine especially Green X. Kick Ick * Formulin 3 Bath, Fresh Water Baths! Did nothing but help the ick along. I lost a few good fish while I was trying the medicine routine. Saltwater ick is not like fresh water ick. It generally comes when you are going through the cycle progress. You cannot add fish to your saltwater tank like you do fresh water, especially while it is still cycling. Sorry I had to learn the hard way.
I will say though after all of the time, money and headaches. I much rather have salt water fish. Number one they don't smell like fresh water. Number two they are alot more colorful. People notice them quite a bit more when they see a saltwater tank.
I am sold on them!!
Good Luck With Your Ick Problem!
