need some help with making rocks

why must you use portland #3 insted of #1??? all i can find is that #3 hardends faster, is it something that is made up with?

David, if that's what you have available, use it. Just have to work a little faster with it. Wish I could show you my home-made rocks but I don't have a camera (yet). But with the money I saved, I can afford one. I just finished a 50-lb cement. I made around 28 big pieces of rocks. The rocks are now "curing" under fresh water and will be ready for use in about 1 month with weekly water changes.

When it comes to making your own rock I think the best site I've found so far is <a href="http://www.garf.org" target="_blank">www.garf.org</a> These folks are great at passing along information and they have several pages devoted to making rock. Probably passing on things everyone already knows but I just had to at least attempt to add something constructive to the threads.
