Need to Get Black Urchin into Tank

I was just given a Black Urchin this evening. The person that gave him to me placed him in a 2g pitcher rather than a bag. After acclimating him in the pitcher, I realize that he has stuck himself to the pitcher and isn't trying to come out. I placed the entire pitcher in the tank holding it down with some rock. After 1 hour, he still hasn't moved although one of my hermit crabs went in to introduce himself.
Will he eventually come out? I've read that they do most grazing at night so should I expect him to come out on his own by morning or should I take some other action?

Did you try to just knock him off with a stick or something? I doubt you would really hurt him if you were gentle.

I can move my short spined if I'm gentle. I never tried a long one though.

a flathead screwdriver underneath it with gentls and consistant pressure will do the trick- if a spine or two break- dont worry they grow back just dont damage the central disc- this method has never failed me
