NEVER burn a bridge!

Dude it was so WEIRD when I walked in. I had been out of there for about 7 years and when I walked in I was thinking, I had that tile installed, I bought those chairs, ....... ( I used to be somebody at that company) Then when I got settled in and started going through all the stuff I saw my writing on stuff all over the place. It was wild.
The job is good and it is keeping me busy, the days fly by. Yesterday while I was moving the stuff from the old safety office to my new safety office I found my notebook that I used to write notes in. I figured what the heck and I started using it again.
I know most of the people there, everyone just put on 10 pounds and got gray.
So far so good.

That's crazy man. It sounds like it was meant to be, even the 7 yr. break so that you could stay at home with your kiddos. Best of luck...

I apparently spoiled my family. My wife and daughter both said more than once last night how nice it was to finally get a good meal since I started working. Monday was Marie Calendar Pot pies, Tuesday leftovers from an Italian restaurant, Wednesday was spaghetti so last night I made some barbecued chicken and fried potatoes. Mon- Wed was not like I was starving them, or pulling stuff out of the trash, it just was not freshly made like I used to do.
Some people are just going to have to realize how spoiled they are.

My brother is a stupid good cook. So when he made a dinner for my wife's birthday, including ny strips, prawns, salad, and orderves an awesome spread. She rolled her eyes and said, again?

wow, sounds like you are doing great.
Take your crock pot out of storage. If you don't have one, buy the one that goes to a "warm" setting after the food is cooked. Its a life saver in this house. I have several things I cook that are healthy and hot. Generally only a salad, veggies, rice etc. need to be made once we are home.
The days that I work I have a few "one pot" type reciepes that I throw together.
I NEVER have burned a bridge and never will. I wanted something part time and I mean really part time due to my husbands crazy job and kids in different schools. I called my boss that I worked for , for 8 years, put the bug in is hear that if they needed anything, even inventories count me in.
Its been great for over year now. I almost make my own hours.....not too many though. I do just about anything that a lot of people don't have time for. Kind of made my own position with out even knowing it. Years ago we used to always talk about having someone around to do this stuff, but no room on the payroll. But after several layoffs, downsizing it became more apparent that this small job was needed to help the full time staff.
If they say they can't use me anymore.....thats okay.....! Its just nice to have a little extra cash coming in.

Marie Calendars food is good food, it is not like I was feeding them swill.
LTS that is a good idea about the crockpot. I have to get in the habit or trying to figure out what to make for dinner in the morning. Then either throw it in a crockpot or at least pull it out to defrost it. That is always weird trying to figure out what you are going to have for dinner, before you have had breakfast.
That is awesome about your job. That is kind of what I have before, and what the company did for me, from '99 to '03. You know my kids are 15 and 16 now and they have never gone to the same schools. Even now they are in H.S. and they go to different ones, it would make things too easy if they did.
So my first week back to full time work in 7 years, well really 10 years and we are not 100% sure how things are going to go and how we are going to take care of things. Monday I start and that night I have to go to band booster meeting that night (Yeah sorry babe but you are not going on the $3,000 trip to to Scotland and England next year) Tuesday have to pick up my daughter at a band thing at 9:30 that night, Wednesday had to run out to the store to get some stuff for my wife and her broken tooth at the drugstore, Thursday just work, Friday had to run my daughter to a different H.S. for a band thing, (Took a total of 3 different round trips to the HS) Had to clean the house for a family party at our house on Saturday. Saturday continue cleaning and had the party starting at 11:00 til around 3:00. NOW on top of all that stuff, I lose an hour this weekend.
Kind of odd timing I guess.

We have gone from dreading the day my daughter turns 16 to looking forward to it and the big fat insurance bill that will come with it.
I think it is kind of a good thing that my family is so spoiled, goes to show I did something right and that I must be a fairly good cook.

My mother loved it when I got mine. Why she got a pick up and Delivery service to and FROM WORK. Her shift was 3-11 and I got out of School at 2:20 so she would pick me up after school then run to work I would get the car there. Best part was all the Free DQ I got for being the one that went on the runs for it.

Congrats on the new position! I wish more people had the same kind of dignity and aplomb that you demonstrated when they leave their jobs.
My company recently closed up shop and laid everybody off. It was a gradual process that involved a couple rounds of layoffs before the final doors were shut. The vibes in that office during the final weeks were very poor, I gotta tell ya. Certain people came in and just spent the entire day surfing the internet instead of trying to wrap up loose ends. Things began to "go missing." And when I say things, I don't mean pens and desk organizers. We're talking 17" monitors, hard drives, and touch screen LCD monitors. Real classy.
Needless to say, the ones of us who stayed until the very end tried to make the best of it. And what was more amusing, some of us (including myself) were actually called back in for a couple weeks to work as "outside advisors" to finish up some patient filing issues. It wasn't a lot of work, but at least it was a few more weeks of income. I felt that my work output in those final weeks on payroll was what convinced them to bring me back after the official layoff.
Of course, as of today I'm unemployed.
Oh well. Gotta keep looking!

Hey T316, what's the job market in NC look like these days?
Seriously. If I could find a decent job in NC right now, I'd move the family. South FLorida's market is getting pretty bad.

To be honest with you, not too good. I'm doing all I can to hold onto my company (which I will), but I have an interview myself on Wednesday for another full-time job with the state.

Iron, Free DQ is ALWAYS a good thing. I loved the brownie sundaes.
I swore we would not be one of those people that would give our kids a car when they turned 16..... well we have a third car that she might as well consider hers. Too bad with the laws the way they are she will not be able to drive her brother.
Nova, I won't tell you my job hunting story, let's just say I REALLY appreciate what they have done for me here.
The only other job I have had in my professional career, the place moved to St. Louis (Really called Earth City MO.) I know how much "fun" it can be in a place that is closing down.
T3, Glad to hear that your plans are moving forward.

Yeah...I'm as nervous as a whore in church

I have not filled out a job application, or had an interview, in over 20 yrs....and now the 2nd one I apply for, BAM...an interview

They are probably going to think..."where has this dude been hiding", because I am not up to date on all these scenario/beat around the bush bullcrap questions that employers ask now days just to "evaluate" your personality. Whatever happened to just plain ole' talking back and forth?
