New 10 Gal, what fish?

Hello everyone, i am new to the forum. i set up my first saltwater aquarium just a week ago. cycling is going well, but i was wondering what fish i should add? it's a 10 g, so i only plan on adding a fish or two for now. i don't want to overstock and i want to take things slowly. i was interested in getting a damselfish. i want to keep small fish in my tank. anyone have any suggestions? and also, in the future, would i be able to add any corals with my live rock? thanks!

hey... welcome to the boards... well with the tank u have i found a bunch of types of fish u can get... these are all fish intended for nano tanks. Id say 2 of these fish would be a good total number of fish for your tank.

I'm not very far into the experience level either, but I have three fish who have survived everything!
Firefish are really hardy little fellows, cute, too!

Thanks for the help. i was trying to find some information on saltwater fish that stay small, around 2 to 3 inches because my tank is going to stay small for squite some time. i figured i should start getting used to how it works before i try going big :) if anyone has any other suggestions on small fish, let me know.

i have one yellow watchman goby and one clownfish (of the false percula nature i'm assuming) I just added the clown, and the goby bit at it a few times when the clown backed up into it's cave.
I recommend both, they both are great, I'm looking to add one more tiny fish, since the clwon hangs by my frogspawn, and the goby by its cave, i need a swimming fish.

I was looking into those suggestions of fish and found a few that i would be interested in. i especially like the purple firefish, clown goby's and the false percula. i'm so excited! my ammonia is going up... it's sitting at 1.0 right now. the shrimp has just started to decompose. just out of curiosity, has anyone here ever maintained a 5 gal? i know the bigger you go the less room you have for error, but i think it would be possible to keep a 5 gal sw aquarium if you keep with water changes and testing. my friend is trying to start one but i suggested she start with a larger thank as she does not have as much aquarium experience as some of us do. i downsized my ten gallon to a 5 because my parents decided it was taking up to much room and they are doing some work in the house. although i am surprised how well everything is going with it, if anyone has any tips for me i would really appreciate it. so i am probably going to have to stick with one very small fish hehe

No saltwater fish should be kept in a 5 Gallon; I believe that 10 is the minimum for a saltie to live happily, and even the 10 Gallon is limited to pretty much everything listed above.

I have a 150 DT and just started my first nano last month. Its a 15H. I have a Randall goby who shares a burrow with a pistal shrimp. Fun to watch them together. I also have a sexy shrimp and a green clown goby. I hope to add another fish or 2 since the ones i have are small and stay small. Hopefully you will have a fast cycle. Mine was cycled in 2 weeks. Since your ammonia is spiked its time to take out that raw shrimp, and good luck

I now have 1 yellow watchman, 1 small (rather small) False Perc. Clown, and 1 Firefish. I know, overstocked, but I'm handling the bioload and within the next week at the most (most probably Sunday) I'll be moving the 10 to a 29 so Its quite temporary. But I suggest a Firefish now, amazingly beautiful fish that has a pretty good personallity, and my watchman tries to eat him, so you might want to avoid mixing those two.

i haven't had a problem with mine hiding, does ur burrow too? cuz mine goes into a burrow sometimes

I have had three and all didnt hide very much. None were jumpers either. The only jumper i've ever had was a diamond goby. He jumped twice within two days, lol.

i'm probably going to get 2 blue-green chromis once my cycle is done. just waiting for my nitrites to go down and i will be good to go!

There are holes in some of my rock in the back (before I rearranged) and he was ALWAYS in there. Now he's always out in the front staring at me, begging for food.
