Hi everyone, I am a newcomer to the saltwater world and would like some input on my new SW tank. I currently have 3 Damsels to begin cycling. Any suggestions on later additions to the tank, (after cycling)? I have kept FW fish for over 5 years and I just HAD to try SW!!!!

I would take the damsels back to the LFS, and restart the tank w/ Live Rock instead of damsels. They will quickly out grow the tank and become very agressive.
Make sure you're using RoDI water or you will have very bad algae problems.

Thanks for the tip! I went to the FS and bought some LR today. I wish I would have known to cycle with LR or I would have never bought the Damsels. I was acting on the advice of a large chain pet shop. I have recently spent a lot of time online and learned a great deal more than at the petshop! This is a great forum, thank you very much. I am feeling really bad about the damsels now

I used filtered tap water for the setup (pur) and have been topping with distilled.

I would HIGHY recommend getting RODI water from a LFS or getting an RODI unit which ever you prefer. It's a lot closer to pure water than anything else.
Distilled is a lot better then pur water though. Welcome to the hobby!

I will look into a RO unit, I will definately want a bigger tank after I get the hang of the small one. Is that something I can get at Home Depot? I have another question, can anyone tell me if there are any siphons made for sand? If not how do you vaccum the sand without loosing it? Thank You,

Look on ----. They have some nice models for around 100 bucks. Take the damsels out now while you can catch them and then put at least 10lbs of live rock in there. If you use tap water you are on the road to a bad tank. Use only RO/DI or RO or distilled water. Post some pictures.

Another question, if I take the damsels out and get more LR, can or should I drain the tank and replace the tap water, will that hurt anything? The research I did before the setup said it would be ok to use pur filtered tap water. After finding this forum, I have learned different.

Thanks

Agree just do like a 75% water change... or if you take the fish out you can do 100%. But dont put anyfish in there until you see that there is not going to be a cycle...
