Just recently added a coral cat shark and a Blue spot ribbon tail ray.
trust me i know the ribbontail doesn't do well for most people, but im willing to try my luck with it.
My LFS got this ray in about a month ago and i would come in about twice a week to watch it feed, every time it would eat like a cow so the last time i was in there i decided to bring it home.
Its been in the tank about 4 days now and eats every time i feed it. So so far everything is good except for the fact that the ray has shown me just how dirty my tank is by stirring up all the sand. Was a little worried about a cycle because of this but so far every day my test readings are the same with
ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 5-10 little darker then 5 on the color chart but not as dark as 10.
ph 8.2
salinity 1.0255
temp is a steady 76-78
The coral catshark went in the same day as the ray, i know thats bad but i have been looking for a coral locally for about 8 months and i didn't wanna let someone else buy it before i could. I did watch it feed at the LFS but has since not eaten in my tank, im hoping its just getting acclimated and will start feeding soon.
Anyways here are the pics. Sorry if they look bad like i said the ray has made a sandstorm out of the tank.

Good looking tank . I wish you lots of luck with the ray . The LFS had one last week when I was in there . I just dont have the guts to try one .

Nice. Is the coral completely under the rock? I did not know you can keep a clown and a grouper. I have always wanted a maroon clown but I love groupers so much. See you making me want to try and get a clown. Where;s the brown banded? I think I see the vtail in the first picture between the rocks. How big is the coral catshark. They are so hard to come by, you were right by taking it before somebody else snatched it. Did you pay under $100 for it, if you dont mind. I have one I just bought also.

if you look in the 3rd pic you will see the heads of both the coral and the bamboo. they have both tunneled a little hideout there that both share. I paid exactly 100 for the coral. If i could catch the grouper he would be gone, i have read that he will eventually get large enuff to eat my clown so hes got to go. Id say the coral is about 17" and the bamboo is around 12"

Lol.. My coral is between 17 and 18 inches too and I bought mine for $115.He did not eat the shrimp and squid I fed the groupers yesterday so I went out and bought him some silversides today and he ate one. I have a vtail also, and he would swim up close to the glass sometimes and look at me, so cute. If I could get a saddleback grouper I will just die, nobody has one they say its out of season. I have called every lfs within 25 miles north and south of me, I had it on a wish list here but today I see he's not even on the list anymore, bummer. He's has so much personality.

i have some silversides in the freezer that i have never gotten anything to eat really, maybe i will try those tonight. My V-tail is so shy its funny to read that yours comes out and looks around and stuff. Mine will move from cave to cave and hole to hole and peek out. I have only seen it come out from the rocks once and swim around and it was at night with only the moonlights on and i dont think he knew i was in the room. I have also caught him darting back to the rocks when i come down stairs, we kinda spot each other at the same time and he runs and hides.
The only other times he comes out is to feed and then its only far enough to grab the food and get back to the rocks with it.
If you want another v-tail and wanna get your hands/arms wet then i got one for you :D free only catch is you have to catch him. lol

LOL.That sounds like my miniatus. He refuses to move from behind this one rock. I have to throw the food practically to his rock for him to snatch it. He sometimes comes out at night when all lights are out. He might be a little scared of the vtail which is like an inch and a half bigger. The vtail thinks he's the boss of the tank. He swims through the caves and goes over to the rock where the miniatus is and acts like he wants a fight but then he justs swims away. I would rather get rid of the vtail and keep the miniatus, mini's are so much cuter. One of these days when I hit the lotto Im gonna have a fish room with aquariums and all four walls, LOL.

tried the silversides just now and the coral and ray both gobbled them up. nothing else in my tank will touch them.

Thats good mine only ate one, the shrimps in my tank at more than him, LOL. Im selling some rocks out of my tank to give him more room. I have like 6 people emailing me about wanting them but I kind of not want anyone to come to my house but I don't want to ship either.Oh well. Maybe I should just take them out and keep them in case in the future I wanted to do reef.

very nice pics...do not put anything more in that tank though, two sharks and a bluespotted ribbontail ray are more than enouph when they get full grown for that tank, you might even be pushing it.
take the rocks out (now or soon when the ray gets larger) to give the ray more room to swim and burry itself durring the day or when it gets stressed.

100lbs of rock in a 265 gallon is not allot as is. There is no way im going to remove all my rock or even any of it . I may stack it differently.

sorry, i didn't mean all or right away. when the sharks get big enouph they wont be able to go under the rocks like they are now. ive heard of people useing a silicone or epoxy to glue the rocks to tank wall (higher up) to make a ledge or cave like dwelling for larger sharks.

i could maybe do something like that using pvc pipe and eggcrate. i had planed on doing this to another tank. ill keep that in mind.
