new 2o gallon reef

heres the deal.
tomorrow (sat) I am getting a 20 gallon tank with 30" 130 watt outer orbit lighting. Aslo has a H.O.T magnum canister filter and a maxijet 300 grh powerhead. Includes live sand and water and will be set up still when I go to get it. also heater is included
My question is , with this little tank would i need a skimmer as long as i kept up with water changes.
I am planningon doing a reef with maybe one or two fish and a few shrimps. mostly just a ricordia breeding ground I hope.
any input appreciated, as I have no knowledge onthe smaller tanks....thanks

come on folks, I have a 180 reef and now how to do it, but have no idea on a 20 gallon. help a fellow out.

i've herd that unless you want a aquac or a bak pak then you just have to do frequent water changes. but on a 20 you dont have to have one. DO NOT get a "nano fission" protein skimmer they are play toys are do not work.

Not the bak pak.. I know a guy with a 16 at my lfs and it just hangs on the back.. To with that HOT it may not work..

I dont follow ya...which skimmer are you suggesting? and why wouldn't it work with the magnum HOT

The back pack would work.. But the hot magnum hangs on too so i dont think they would both fit.

I got ya now. I am running the magnum with purigen in it. Jsut got the tank today,,,pre cycled with live sand and water and all the crabs and snails. gonna put some small rocks in tomorrow and go from there.
was really plannin on the nano fission, but the other guy says no way.
I thought they were prett good. Current usa usually doen't make toomuch junk.

i took some pics...cloudy as heall but I am gonna keep a photo diary of it. I just have to decide what to do about the skimer.
It is ready to add fish to right now. As it was already up and running. I figure i will research the skimmer for a little more and decide. The nice thing is, I only have a $100 in all of it and the nano skimmer is like 25 so it would be cheap enuf.
