I have a 55 tank set up with 60lbs of Southdown and 50lbs of LR. I was thinking about a huma-huma and a small dog face puffer to start. How do they get along anyone have experience with them? I know that the puffer will out grow the tank in time I will trade him in when he gets too big. And which should I get first. Thanks

Just make sure the trigger is big enough not to be considered food by the puffer. Dog face grow seem to grow pretty fast though I have limited experience with them.
Tank looks good !! Now that you have the new one set up, you know what comes next right ? .......... The next bigger new tank :p I think it is part of the addiction !!

Snakes..
I started with a 125 reef and I wanted fish that would not go in reef so this is why I have the 55 now. Addiction is an understatement. Thanks. Dog face pufer would eat a trigger? What about some clown fish would he eat them also. I want to get a black&white clown also.....

LOL I did it the other way around. I started an aggressive tank then a 75 reef. Then a 55 FOWLR then a 30 gallon reef with a mantis shrimp. So I know this addiction well :p
Around here the only time you see dog face puffers they are always 4-6 inches. Triggers on the other hand tend to be small when they order them in here 2-4 inches. I would hate to chance a smaller trigger with a large DF. In all honesty I don't know about the clowns. That may be a risk unless you can find a couple of larger ones. Maybe one of the more spunky clowns like maroon or clarki's.

Snakes, How did your mantis do in your reef? I was thinking about making my 20g a reef and putting a mantis shrimp in there (most likely Neogonodactylus Wennerae). Did/do you have anything in there with him? Just wondering.

He has not messed with anything. All I have in there for corals right now is a galaxia(I got him from work where it was dieing, it is slowly coming back). He is with an arc-eye hawk and a 2 stripe damel. He has not messed with them, but he is eating my hermit crabs now about 2 a week. I also had a sand sifting star in there, but I have discovered that mantis shrimp REALLY like star fish. He pretty munched him in about 2 days, I moved the star to my FO where he is already improving. I am getting ready to add another 40 lbs of new new live rock(2 pieces 23lbs and 17 lbs) So he is going to have even more hiding spaces.

I am going to be hooking up a 20 gal fuge to the 55 FOWLR how would a mantis do in a fuge? The LFS has a 2.5" one that has a big claw not sure what kind it is. There was a 6+" beautiful mantis at a LFS and I of course was touching the glass to see if I could get it to move around so I could see it better, well after a few trips around the store I went back to the shrimp. He was starting to move from the back of the 20gal when all of a sudden he struck the glass!!!!!!! Damn I almost messed myself...... What a loud bang I thought it broke the tank. The LFS guy was watching and was laughing very hard and so was my wife. I like mantis after that......

Next time you see a mantis and would like to know what kind it is, just show a pic of it on here and I can most likely get it identified for you. I have to redo my 20g b/c my mantis' never lived, I'm hoping with LR and LV and sme macro algae he'll do very well. Snakes How lon have you had your mantis for? It is a Odontodactylus Scyllarus( Peacock/Clown/Harlequin Mantis) right?

Yep my little guy is a peacock. He shed the other day, at first I thought what the heck happened to him, then looked closer and it was just a molt. I left it in there and later he grabbed it and drug it into his cave. Since then I have seen very little of him and he has not even ventured out for food. When I last saw him he was very pale, this was two days ago. I figure he is going to need some time to let his shell harden.
I will remember that in the future that you have a source for mantis ID'ing. May I ask if it is web based ?
seaham358 you could have a mantis in your fuge no probs. Just feed him and give him alot of places to hide :)

Kinda, yes. It is a different message board, where one section is entirely for mantis shrimp. My friend told me they had a 3 inche orange mantis shrimp at a fish store near me. I'm gonna get my water checked out by my LFS and get evrything good, then I will gett the mantis :).

Update... We'll I have scraped the dogface and trigger. I want a pair of black purcula clowns and I don't want anything messing with them. What I did get is a saddled toby, cute little fish and was only $6 at *****. Do you think a snowflake eel will eat a clown or sleeper goby? That is going to be my last item in the tank an eel.
