I am setting up a new tank...I got rid of my 29g reef because it was too much work...so I want to start a fish only w/o LR 75g tank...I do think I will use live sand but no LR...the tank dimensions are not like a traditional 48" 75g though...its only 36" long and like 4" taller...
What could I put in this??? I was thinking 2 violition lions and a puffer or an eel??? how does this sound any suggestions??? I will be using a Remora Pro protein skimmer and a 18watt double helix UV light...I don't know about stocking or compatability for aggressive fish...
Thanks

IMO I would add some live rock. An eel is going to need it for cover and to hide. The volitans can get as big around as a basket ball, so you might consider a smaller species. The puffer, depending on the kind may nip at the lions fins.
If you really want to keep lions , go with a fuzzy dwarf or two. Add one of the smaller species of grouper and a eel and you should be fine. None of those 'should' pick on each other. I would also add 20-40 lbs of LR for a little extra filtation and hiding spots for the fish and eel.
When I had my 75 setup I had a huma and a rectanglus triggers and a fimbriated moray. The triggers were about 4 inches each and the eel was 2 foot. The triggers where constantly moving and made the tank look full.

Volitan lions just seem to big for a 75. If you do with a voliton, limit your other fish. Like a moray and a smaller grouper or hamlet. I would not add a puffer or trigger. Till you volitan grows your tank will look a little empty, but will get better as he grows. Just remember that volitans with there fins spread are as big as a basket ball. Just limit your fish to keep your bio-load down.
