T-5s or metal halides would be best incase you ever want corals or an anemone. I personally prefer metal halides because of the shimmering and more natural look.

3-5 watts per gallon. In your case I would go with Metal Halides (MH) since you can keep just about anything with them.

Watts per gal is NOT what you should go by. You should go by how deep your tank is and then pick a light system that will be able to penetrate the tank.

Ive read on here that as long as your tank is "standard", as opposed to tall, then going by wattage was ok. This was when I was asking about lighting for my tank, so maybe the responses were tailored to me?

If you wanted to keep SPS in your tank it would be best to get 2x250w metal halides. That would allow you to keep anything you wanted. Or you could go with an individually reflected T-5s 6-8 bulb setup and you might be able to keep SPS but towards the top of the tank.
