Hello guys and gals!
So, When I was at Wally World this evening, I stopped by the aquarium section and low and behold - the sky opened and sun shined down on the answer to my prayers. (haha, just had to.) I saw this 2.5g "Betta kit." It's straight on one side and a little curvy on the other. It's 16" long, 4 1/2" wide and 10" tall. It's made from "Number 7 grade plastic." I'm sure if I took my time with it, I can cut a hole in it without breaking it. I plan on doing a little bit of DIY on the plumbing because I can't afford to just order a bulkhead online. So, I gotta rough it up and make a PVC bulkhead and maybe use a little silicone here and there. Should be water tight by the time I get done. I am going to drill two holes - one at the top and one in the bottom side for the drain. I'm not going to use a union to get the screen off from inside - I'm simply going to cut the zip ties off every week. Zip ties are cheap - and I like taking the whole screen out so that I can also clean the slot. This little tank will allow me to get a bigger screen going AND it will not create as much of a mess in salt creep as my current one does.
I'm going to use two 23w CFL bulbs on each side, and they will be positioned fairly closely to the plastic, but not so close as to melt it. The scrubber will not be sitting higher then my tank, so I am going to continue to use my RIO 1100 pump to feed the scrubber. It should work fairly well. If it doesn't, then I'll replace it with something better in the future. I'm not using near enough of my pumps current potential with the scrubber that I have now.
