New Anemone

Hi! I have been wanting an anemone for a while and have decided to try my hand at one. I do not have any special lighting but soon I might be getting a pc. Is that enough for an anemone? What anemone is the easiest that an occelaris will host? Will one occelaris host an anemone, or do I need a pair? If I get a second occelaris will they share the anemone (pair up) or fight? thanks!

If the clown/clowns were tank raised they MAY never host an anemone. How old is the tank? They need wonderful water specs.

The tank is about 1 1/2 years old. I have not bought the light yet. The tank is 46 gallons. Someone had suggested 260 watts...is that about right? Yes, I did buy "aquacultered" fish, so they might never host.

I have that set up on my 55 but it's not as deep as your 46 I belive. That works fine for me, but not sure with your setup.

They say about 4 watts per gallon, but it really depends on the depth. I don't have the answer. Sorry

you cant have an anemone with 260 watts cause it will only give you 5.6 you need 6-8 watts per gallon to get an anemone yea 300 is good should get that.

Sorry folks but telling someone that a clownfish might not host just because it was aquacultured just isn't the right thing to do. It all depends.
For instance if the clutch of eggs were near an anemone at all it may have picked up the scent of the anemone so to speak and naturally/eventually be drawn to it. If not then the chances may go down from there. No one really knows. It can happen on instinct. Take into account that some Pacific clownfish actually will take to Atlantic anemones.
As to the lighting it also depends on how deep your tank is and what type of anemone you get, also the hight of the rock work in the water column. The minimum for BTA would be in the nieghborhood of 230 watts per gallon, but that is just a start, then you have to take the depth into account if it is a sand dwelling anemone, in which case you may require metal halide.

ok, thanks. I just posted a question in the reef section asking what the best light for a 46 gallon was, becuase I don't want to upgrade again.
