New Aquarium Cycling Process

If my aquarium is a week old, when do I start testing for the cycle? Should I perform a water change at this time or will it mess up the cycling process?

Usually a cycle takes about 4-6 weeks. I would test it about once or twice a week to see where your levels are and if they have gone down. I don't think you should do a water change until after the cycle though.

Thanks for the info. I read that performing a water change during the cycle will prolong the cycle, but I just didn't know if were to be done before the cycle starts.

Welcome to your first test of patience! The cycle just has to run its course. Recommend no water changes. Welcome to the boards!
