I got a small frag of a balanophyllia the other day. Its in pretty bad shape, but i plan to nurse it back to health.
IT has 8-9 heads on it at this point. They are receeded pretty bad, but they are feeding which means they are definitely still alive and able to recover.
I have been feeding them 2 times a day VERY chopped mysis.
They are related to dendrophyllia, but are smaller and have clear tentecals that stay open all day long. The guy at the store got a large colony in months ago and it has died because he did not feed it properly. The frag that i got is the only part still alive that i know of.
These guys usually sell for 15$ a head and are pretty rare coral.
heres what they look like healthy, the ones i have branch though, they dont encrust.
