I have recently added a bi-color to the tank, what a beautiful fish Some of you other angel/bi-color owners, what do you feed them?
Mine has been eating algae off of the rocks, but has not eaten the "angel formula" that i have yet.
Any suggestions?

My bicolor angel eats flakes, pellets, live brine shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, frozen krill, octopuss (originally for me), algae off the rocks, glass, sand, etc, algae flakes, algae floating around after I scrape it off the glass, and dead snails. Basically, everything I have ever thrown in my fish tank and then some. He wasn't always like that though. At first he wouldn't eat anything but live brine shrimp. Then slowly I stated switching to flakes and pellets. His favorite food right now seems to be the live brine and Tetra flakes. Try not to rely on live brine too much though, as they are not very nutritious.

Live brine shrimp supplemented with selco is good and nutritious. W/O selcon not so. WOuld feed a wide variety and don't worry if it is a bit picky at first. If healthy will adapt to eating in your tank in short order. As long as he's picking, that's usually a good sign. Many say that bi-color is difficult to keep. I've had tao in seperate tanks for quite sometime and they have been qutie hardy. Tank needs to be well established and have lots of L/R and algae growth. They do need greens so supplement with Nori on a clip. Congats and good luck.

Sounds like you folk have one beautiful fish! Class Clown, I am curious, how long have you had your Angel for?

You have some very good info here and i agree with all that has been said. In addition, i would soak your foods in zoe. Helps to keep them (and all fish) healthy and seems to really bring out their color. HTH

probably a stupid question, but i will ask anyway.
What kind of greens should i supplement with? Some kinds of Lettuce? and do you just drop some lettuce pieces into the tank?
thanks

Teetee, I've had him for two and a half months. So far he's doing great.
Also, I think they are hardier than some people think. I've heard/read all kinds of different opinions. My bicolor did quite well during my trial-and-error days (which included an Ich attack and an amonia spike), so you can guess what I think!

Wow, how time flies! It has been 3 years now since I've had my bicolor angel and he's still happy as a clam. Just wanted to update this post to celebrate his 3rd anniversary :cheer:
Hope I'm not jinxing it :nervous:

Mine loved to munch on my corals.I just caught it last night in the coralife trap and took it down to the pet store and traded it for a yellow gorgonian. It is a beautiful and active fish. It loved algae sheets.I wish I could have kept it but my corals are worth more.

Yep, these fish have a bad rep, and that proves that there are folks that are successful with keeping fish that have bad track records. Y'all are doing something right, that's for sure. Unfortunately many folks that try keeping BC angels don't fare nearly as well. In many cases, it turns out to be an expensive loss for newbies or worse yet, to the fish.

Mine loves pellets, and algae sheets, plus whatever it can get off of the rocks. I've had it for about 4 months and I love it. Good luck!!

WOW!!! I have been researching this fish for a long time now and I think you have convinced me to get one. What size tank do you have yours in and has it ever picked at corals if you have any? How long do you think I should wait to add one so my tank is established? Its not set up yet. Also can you post some pics of your angel?

I didn't know these guys were so tricky to keep... What tends to be the problem with them?
I almost got one... I was torn between a BC, a coral beauty and a flame angel. I went with the flame and I don't regret it even one bit

You should wait a few months for your tank to establish itself and have some green algae growth as bicolor angels feed on algae. I waited around 4 months. I don't have any corals but I know they DO pick on some corals so be careful.
My tank is only 30 gal. and my equipment consists of an Eclipse hood. THAT'S IT. If there's anything that I've learned about saltwater fishkeeping is to keep it simple and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That might not be the best advice but in my case it seems to work. I've only had four fish in that tank since I bought it new over six years ago (my first and only SW tank) and they're all still alive (2 percolas, 1 royal gramma and the bicolor). Knock on wood, I guess!
I haven't taken pics in years but I do have some at home. I'll dig them up one of these days and post them (I suck at taking pics of my tank for some reason...)

Well, it looks like the party might be over. When I left to work this morning my bicolor was in a corner of the tank, with faded colors and barely moving. I don't have much hope for him when I come home later this afternoon
