I just brought home a new braziliian dragon eel and put it in the tank. As it was searching around it came across my sleeping green bird wrasse and bit it. There are a couple of scratch marks on top and bottom of fish, but doesnt look to bad. Is this something I should treat in a QT or just keep an eye out.
Thanks,Shawn

What do I do if it does get infected? Is there a treatment?

yepp theres medicines
im not sure what they are but i know a lil on the subject
Uv sterilizers are nice for this type of problem
pros
1 kept from getting bit againg
2 if treatment is needed treats only wrasse
3 less stressfull in hospital no compition for territory
con
1 movement stressful to be moved to new tank
2 smaller tank bird wrassses active may feel cramped
theirs prolly more too

If the wounds are just scratches the wrasse should be fine, but if the cuts are deep and severe redness I treat with melafix. It's a herbal treatment that fights bacterial infection, in the event things worsen. Corals and inverts will be unaffected by this med, and same goes for primafix which is a fungal fighter again in case the wrasse worsens.
As far as UV's are concerned they'll do nothing to help a wounded fish get better, they'll improve water quality in the smallest manner, battle parasites, and reduce algaes but even then they're not the most effective tool in these cases.

Titan-They appear to be just scratches, no redness so I think I'll just keep an eye on it for a couple of days. I just went downstairs while lihts are of and it appears he found a new sleeping spot high in the rocks-I guess he learns quickly. Thanks for all the valuable info.
pieceman2- I'm going to start a thread shortly on my semi-new 215 aggresive reef and I'll post the pics there
