New BTA update

Now here it is after supplemental feeding and good lighting. He's drawn down a little because he has evidentally been pooping! He's already all the way back out before I could even post this picture. What do you think now?

Good work, he's looking much better.
How high up in the water column did he climb? and is he staying on one spot?

There are three rocks stacked together that make a cave. They are fairly large rocks, and the top one is pretty far up the water, say eight or ten inches from the surface. When I put him in the tank, I sat him right on the top of that highest rock, with only minimal lighting for the rest of that day and just the moonlights at night.
After less than an hour, he moved down into the crack between two of the rocks. He sticks his top out of the crack, but his foot is wedged way down in there. He's been right there since I put him in. Is that okay? I don't know if you remember, but he was shipped in water just like a fish, which I understand is not always the case.
When do I need to cut back on feeding? Right now it's three times a week. Will he get much darker?
Thanks!

This sounds typical of what a BTA does

That is fine, they tend to protect there foot by placement such as you describe.
Correct this is not always the case, sometimes the water can weight him down and crush him. Then there is a pH issue. Ammonia issue.

I believe he should get darker, all depends, sometimes they might even look a bit marbled at times. I'd say from the pics at least twice as dark as he is now, depends on lighting. There are times that I feed mine only once every two months. I would feed them only 2 times per week for now.
