I can tell you my headache with cameras the past few days. I wanted to get a new camera, SLR's are nice but a bit to big and bit to pricey for me right now. So I opted for the next best thing, I call them the "baby SLR's" they are the mega zooms out there.
So a searching on the internet I went. I fell in love with the Kodak Z712 IS. This was the beginning of my HUGE headache. Bought it at Future Shop, the guy there never told me anything about the dame batteries this puppy needs.
20 shots later the disposable lithium it came with died, no great surprise now. So I then went to get the recharge batteries. Oh did I mention that the great company of KODAK makes this camera to only accept their batteries. Well $60.00 later for the battery I get it home but it is not the Kodak one as in Canada we don't have them here for sale. You have to order them from the USA and also Kodak told me on the phone you "must" also order the charger for that battery or it will not hold a charge for you. Great
So the idiot I am thinking that this supposed great cameras is just what I wanted. I bought the Energizer rechargable lithium ion and charger for this camera. Well after a full charge I got 5 pictures from it and then it was dead.
Now I am really getting, well you know what. I said to my self, "Always go with the best brand you had in the past and know reliable CANON you fool".
So yesterday the Kodak and all its crap went back. I was one of 4 that were returned that day and instead came home with the cream of the crop.
I can now say that after that I learned my lesson and now own the
Canon S3 IS and what a beauty this camera is indeed. Still thumbing through the book but wow, there is no comparison for this camera compared to the Kodak battery issue aside. Best part of all, it takes AA batteries and 4 of them. But hey, I don't mind this at all when you have these type of batteries easily available and I already use these in my Sony anyways.
So what I have learned is that I will never, ever buy a camera that takes Lithium batteries of any kind. So far I love, love, love this Canon. I will be taking more pics today with it and will post some later.
One thing Canon is noted for is their great "macro" feature and the pictures are just perfect......
Oh and another thing I learned, Panasonic makes some nice cameras too. But here they don't come with the batteries "lithium" they take. They want you to deal with Panasonic themselves for those. Sorry, but I will never own one of those cameras either.
So I hope this helps you a bit, do your homework and your battery research too before buying....
