Oh, I'd like to know that too, as I was thinking about getting the 72" SunPod.

I have 2 150w MHs,
I sure want some of those
problem is that the guy at lfs told me the clams need at least 8hrs of MHs.
That's way too much light.
My tank will be a hair algae farm if I leave MHs on that long.
Right now, have a reef fish mixed tank, but will mainly go with reef.
And I set MHs on only 4 hrs a day
And my corals are doing so well,
best of all, I dont' have hair algae!!
How long do you leave your light on?
Those clams are pretty.

The fan on mine is near silent, I dont know about the bigger models because mine is the 20".
As for lighting.....
I leave it on well over ten hours a day and have zero hair algae, however I have a pretty big cleanup crew of Astraea snails, but no algae to speak of *knock on wood*

Looks like a golden teardrop?, behind the blue crocea. I've never seen a clam open so wide before and he looks huge.

Nice clam but it needs to be off the substrate. T. Crocea is a rock boring clam. It is vulnerable to bristle worms if kept on the substrate. It also needs to be as close to the light as possible, it is the most light demanding clam. If you have just added it, then keep it on the substrate for a week or so then acclimate it up into the rockwork. Just some suggestions, good luck with it.

Thanks for the advice, I am quite aware that it cannot stay on the substrate. However, the only reason bristle worms would be attracted to any clam is if it is dying, they are attracted to decaying flesh not live flesh, other wise the other clam would be long gone.
He is a Tridacna Gigas, a true Giant Clam and will grow to around four feet in length. The larger clam garden being made for him is already in progress and he is around 5-6 inches in length he was around 3-4 when I got him six months ago. Gigas tend to stay more open that other species of clam.
Thanks for the interest! v :cheer:

I have the 36" Sunpod on my 65 gal. and think its a great fixture. I love the light from the 14ks and i added a 21w Slimpaq t-5 actinic. The corals are open longer now. I run the act 12 hrs and MH 8 hrs. Fans are not loud.

So do you have a chiller for your tank or does your tank temp stay steady even with the MH on that long?
