Good afternoon. After spending a majority of an afternoon cleaning and scrubbing the 29 gallon Biocube, I fiiled it with R/O and placed a few rock in it and slam dunked a raw shrimp and closed her up for a cycle. After re-reading a thread on cycling, always a good idea after not doing it for some time, went a step further and cranked up the heat to 82.5.
This morning after class at noon, I checked the ammonia and it is currently .50 and a little on the stinky side. Yeehaw.....
While cleaning this cube, which by the way is my very first SW tank.... all these ideas were running through my brain on what does Kiefers want to do with this unit. Red Sea coral reef? Mantis Shrimp tank only? Great barrier looking scene? After running these ideas with the wife, she kindly reminded me that the cube is going to be the QT for corals. CRAP!! Talk about running full speed into a glass door! Lol.......
good idea actually.... we both had experienced first hand on what QT'g critters, wether corals or fish, can do. Some folks get lucky and never have had a serious issue but wow.... I lost all my children of the tank, and the wife lost several.
So.... today the readings for the day are.....
1) Ammonia- 0.50
2) Nitrite - 0
3) Nitrates- ya.... 0
4) salinity 1.026
5) temp is currently 81.5
A little bit later I will worry abouth the pH and add some L/R.
so until next time..... oh and Paidey is doing the same with her 29 gallon biocube. May, or she may want to start her own thread *hint hint, wink wink*, post as we go.
Oh and I failed to mention this...... it really is rather morbid smelling in that tank!!!
