New Downtown Aquarium

Today I went to the new Downtown Aquarium in Houston, and it was great! They had lots of fish, both fw and sw and more corals than I think I've ever seen in my entire life! They even had a black tang, which is rare. I would recommend it to anyone who loves fish. Also, I took the train ride and went through the shark tunnel and they had lots of sharks, some over 6 feet long, including sand tigers, nurse, a sawfish, and some other sharks whose names I forgot. What I really liked about the train ride was that they had a speaker system that explained everything and told about the depleting numbers of sharks and some of what should be done to conserve them. It always makes me happy to see a place teaching conservation of these precious creatures rather than hate. I would go back :)

Far far better than Kemah, which is having a few problems, IMO. This one may have those same problems down the road. Time will tell. Now the downtown aquarium is quite new, so they are also having issues with that...but I think it looks promising. Kemah has about 80,000g total...this is, I believe 500,000g total. Plus, it is more of a public aquarium...with restaurants with tanks too. A different concept in some ways than Kemah. Looking very good right now though. I like the design quite a lot! :D

as evident by the title of the post "New DOWNTOWN aquarium" it is downtown.;) But seriously it is right next to Bayou place and the Wortham center. They have a website, they open at 10:00am and tickets are $7.50

They are definitely having some new tank issues. If you are in town, worth a see, but you might want to return after a few months. We all remember what if was like after having a tank up 2 months. ;) But all in all, looking good!
