New fish CYCLING predicament

I recently added a puffer and a triggger to a five month old aquarium. The tank sat nearly empty for 3 weeks housing only 2 hermit crabs, prior to adding latest fish. The addition of the fish sent the tank into a nitrification cycle. The fish have been in the tank 1 week with about .2 ammnonia, no trites, and 30 nintrates. I have been doing daily water changes to keep the ammonia down and to hypo the tank( the fish developed ick from the stresses). I have also added Bio-spira bacteria booster. I have been showing ammonia for 8 days and no trites. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this and could comment on how long the process could take? Can't add any live rock or sand becasue I am hyposalinizing the tank. Are there any additoonal measures I could take? I do have a 37 gallon housing my LR and Hermit crabs. I was thinking about moving the canister and protein skimmer to my problem aquarium to add beneficial bacteria. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!
THANKS
