new fish

I am suppose to get two smaller fish and keep adding until i get about 4 small fish (to start the bacteria cycle). If the rule of thumb is 5g for every one inch of fish, does that mean i can only get one larger fish if i have a 29g tank. thank you.

Drop a dead grocery shrimp in the tank for your cycle, and buy the fish after the tank has cycled.

I would use the above idea, if you put in fish to cycle they may die (not good) so if you use a shrimp no worries about wasted money and will cycle just as well. ---- Bill

a good piece of shrimp is a waste too. I love steamed shrimp. Go with LR/LS and leave this in your tank for about a week and then add some clowns after the nitrites dropped to about 0.

i agree w/ bud, shrimp coctail is too good to see be thrown away, lol
