If you don't get a resonse over here you can always post with the name in the title under the fish forum. I am intrigued, sounds like a cool looking fish!
edit: I see you already have done that.

Is it the following?
If so, I am afraid though beautiful, this is a highly specialized fish that primarily eats SPS coral polyps in the wild. Not much long term success, I am afraid.
There was one at the aquarium I worked at, and it did not survive long.

Well, I guess if you don't intend them to live longer than being food, maybe not much
but it is an expensive diet.
To establish the proper corals long term, just do a simply search in the reef forum for "SPS" :scared:

Hmmm. I don't keep SPS coral personaly so I am not sure of the requirements aside from "alot". :scared: But what I am wondering is since they would be strictly a food source if you would need the Halide lighting- what do you have now? You would probably need to monitor your trace elements, calcium etc.. Do you have any LFS's close by that stock SPS? Maybe you could work out adeal on pieces that appear to be going downhill or something since those little frags are not cheap. Wow, good luck with this one, it is a shame that fish made it's way into the store in the first place.

I was looking in my books and this is what I foound in the CMA: 'Most species make excellent captives, with one colorful but unfortunate exception. The frequently offered Longnose Filefish (Oxymonacanthus longirostris), sometimes confusingly called the Oragngespotted Filefish, only eats coral polyps.' Just thought I mention it as when I looked up the actual Orangespotted Filefish it said it made a suitable aquarium choice so it was a bit confusing.

Too expensive of a diet for a fish!!!! I wouldn't suggest keeping this fish. The requirement for SPS is high flow, well established tank with good levels, good lighting, etc. They don't grow that fast, so you probably couldn't keep enough to feed that filefish. Unless you have a lot of money to spent to constantly buying SPS corals to feed it. SPS examples: Montipora, Pocilliopora, Millipora, Digitata, Bird's Nest, Acropora, etc. Some of these corals can be pretty expensive. If you want to keep it, best to get some Montipora, the least expensive of all, but it depends which Montipora you go with as well, the Green Cap is the least expensive. :happyfish

In defense of the business, you came in the store wanting the fish. You put a deposit down on the fish not inquiring about it and you made it seem like you knew what you wanted, and knew what you were doing. For the record, we did not say it was an uncommon fish. We get this particular fish in somewhat frequently. Please accept my apology if I sound defensive, but when I here deragatory comments from customers about something that wasn't said, I like to set the story straight that we are well informed on our stock and can answer almost any question. As far as knowledge goes about what we sell, our boss has been in the business for over 23 years and we will turn to him before we give wrong information to any customer. All of us that work at Somethingfishy enjoy what we do and treat customers the way we would want to be treated. We not only work at the store but enjoy the hobby as well with S/W tanks ranging from 75 Gal. to 220 Gal. Thank you for you're concern and patronage!!

To set the record straight I never said anything bad abut somthing fishy, I have spent quite a bit of money in there, I saw the fish a week ago, did some research, found a small bit of info that was concurrent with what the gentleman at the store said, (not Skip), days later I ut a deposit on the fish after the same man told me again that the fish would be fine in my tank, and its diet is brine and other meaty foods. I picked up th efish the next day, and asked people on here as well as 60 some web pages. Everthing agreed that the info I recieved at the fish store and initially on line was incorrect. I never once said anything negative or derragatory about the store. I mere responded to someone who aske where I got it. Before you go off running your mouth to customers, you should read what you wrote.

Like stated in the response, apologies for being defensive if it came off like that and apologies for the misunderstanding. The previous comment as you can see have been rescined and apologies once again. I am sorry if the response has offended you, and I hope everything works out for you in your favor.

" our boss has been in the business for over 23 years and we will turn to him before we give wrong information to any customer" If this is true then why would he even purchase this fish to resell. :notsure:
