New FOWLR setup questions

Hi all. I have a couple of quick questions. Will an Emperor 400 and CPR Bakpak be a good combination for a 55g FOWLR? Also, do I need powerheads? Anything else I need? Thanks.

I don't know about the filtration, but you definitely need some powerheads. I would suggest three. The "rule of thumb" for powerheads is to have no "dead spots" in your tank--you want there to be water movement everywhere. :D

the emporer 400 is a great filter... on my fw 55, i had 2 of them running... water was so clear and healthy, you could have drank it
i have never used it on sw, but my first sw tank was a 29g eclipse, which had an identical filtration system, and was successful
i would get 2 emp 400's, and a few powerheads...

No dead spots?
This may be a silly question but dont fish need sleep of some type? If they have to constantly swim ....?

I was always under the impression that fish can swim while sleeping. Kinda like we breathe and rollover while sleeping. I have no science to back this up, just observation.

for an Emp 400, 55 gallons is pushing it.....I'd run it with live rock and live sand to be on the safe side. I've ran the emp400 in a 46 with live sand and it works great but it's recommended for under 50....i think a good skimmer teamed up with the 400 should be all you need as far as filtration.

They could always hide in the rockwork if they got tired of the current :D

With the 400 and a good skimmer I thimk you would be set. Just add a couple of powerheads then and your good to go.
