New Frag Tank

Ya know, at some point the other people in our lives have to just sit back and go "he's crazy and lost it- He's obsessed, I give up"......

My 45g frag tank is simply to small and it's driving me crazy. My LFS has 85g tanks that are 60", kinda shallow, only 14" tall and they make great frag tanks, killer part is they are only $89 each (fujimoto tanks) I'm going down tomorrow and buying 2 of them for a total of 170g I'll have to build the stand as it's going to be a double decker design, 1 will be for SPS the other for zoa's and softies.....I'll post pics later...................
.
All this started because we had to get rid of an extra refrigerator that was in a hallway, the moment it was removed, I swear that I got some kinda divine message that said "There, that is the place - YOU MUST build it and install before the next full moon"........

The frig used to sit to the left of this tank, I can't believe that it's finally gone....I'm so freaking happy, it literallyw as the very last place in the house that a frag tank could go....

I understand about fragging obessions. I have in the last week gotten a 40 drilled tank for fragging, won a pico tank in a drawing, ordered my 90g. I am in the process of recieveing a four foot coral table that I will be growing sps in. So one day, you and me are going to do some serious trading.

Ok,....I kinda caved in, otherhalf was kinda ticked about the dual frag tanks and it looking like a total eyesore, so I decided on a single 85g tank thats 72" long with nice stand, both just arrived and now I'm staining and getting ready to seal the stand

Tank arrived!!!! Just finished putting on a light maple stain and then sealing with clearcoat....85G tank, I have over flows that I'll install. There will also be dual 45g sumps underneath, one for macroalgae and the other for a specail projects tank. Total cost for tank and stand was $220, brand new...Not the best tank, but workable...

That looks good. I can't wait to see it in action. I got my 90g in today so that is going to be my first foray into larger tanks. So far I have had a 29g, 10g and 5g. I should have my 40g prop tank started by the end of this weekend.

dude that's sweet, i can barely afford to up keep my DT let alone running a frag. but i do have a 55 gallon sitting around now that i went up to a drilled 75. Maybe i'll put up egg crate 8" from the top and throw a couple VHOs on it just grow softies and zoos.

Major design issues, custom sump is too tall for skimmer, just had a dedicated outlet installed and it sits in the wrong place ARgh.....I'll have to buy another sump tank tomorrow, problem is that it has to go in thru the back of the stand or you'll never get it inside the stand so I have to wait to fill the tank and get things going....

Lucked out, we were able to move the existing chaeto tank without draining it
Man, thats a first, it just slid across the floor, completely full and powered up...Makes the transition really easy, now I just scoop the LS over to the new tank, then pump the water over add some existing LR a adn the gridwork system and it's done

Last photo, you can see what I mean about the sump/skimmer, not enough room, so will have to make another sump out of a shorter tank...

The rest of this went really easy...Ended up with a 45g sump thats 48"L x 14W. I wanted a huge sump to house my chaeto and other algaes I grow, plus the water volume is nice. It's pretty much cycled and ready to go, I used 150lbs of fully cured LS from a holding tank that I use, plus it already has about 5g of chaeto along with 100lbs of fully cured LR that goes in later tonight.
.
I'm going to use a unique lighting configuration, since I'm down to just a single tank, I'm using 14k 250w MH & 2x96w actinics on the left handside and 6500k 250w MH & 2x96w actinics on the right hand side, this way I can have a grow out side along with a colorup side. Decided to use 2 fixtures instead on one, as I'll be messing around inside the tank a lot and it's easier to lift off a 36" fixture than a 72" fixture.
.
MRC calcium reactor and skimmer
Neptune controller
.
Next project is the eggcrate, and then it's fragging time
.
This is going to be a micromussa, blasto, Acan, Echino frag tank along with a tons of zoo's

There are 2 units, Coralife Agualight PRO HQI's. Decided to use 2 units instead of a single one because of the size, it's easier to to lift off a 36" unit than a 72" one. 250w MH with 2x65w Actinics
Right side has a 14k bulb, possible upgrade to a 20K
Left side has a 6500k bulb for growth
I'll move corals from the left side to right side as they grow out

Looking good, I wish I had a frag tank. Can't wait to see your Blasto frags.
