As I understand it...If having rocks in our tanks make it a refugium we wouldn't need a refugium. The critters pick at, and clean little critters off the rocks, so that pile of rock is not a refugium..It is a grazing station and a place or fish to hide. A refugium is a separated place where tiny critters are safe from being eaten and can populate.
So Anti's rock may be a refuge it is not a refugium which the title implies.

This fuge is below my mixed reef. Although it does contain life, it still acts as a fuge in that the several strains of algea growing in it keep any from growing on the glass or rocks in the reef above it. All of the livestock in it are not reef safe.

Anti, I think the flame angel is reef safe. I also read that macro algae fiight worse than corals you might want to look intot hat just to be sure, anyway it looks really nice...better than some DTs I have seen

I was reading up on macro algae and it seems they give off poison to kill other macro algae in an effort to eliminate any competition for food and space. Coral does the same thing so we run carbon to prevent chemical warfare, but it seems from what I read it is an even worse situation with macros. Carbon won’t help. The article said to pick one type of macro and stay with that and not mix them.
