I bought a Slimer on monday and its a liitle on the brown side.I was wondering if you could give me some possible reasons for this.Also no polyp extention as of yet.
Here are my light specs. and my water params.
Ammonia=0
Nitrate=0
Nitrite=0
Calcium=420
Alkalinity=3 meq/l
Magnesium =1300
Ph=8.0-8.2
Temp=75-77 deg.
sg=1.026
Phosphate=? (dont know because i dont test for it) have a big ball of cheato in fuge and do a 15% water change bi-weekly and i use RO water
Lighting=2-250 watt 14k MH about 8" off water surface.
and the Slimer is about 10"under surface.
Is my Slimer just acclimating or is something possably wrong?
Oh and i only temp acclimated the new addition.Ive read mixed reviews on acclimation of coral temp vs drip.However i think in future i will drip.
TIA

sorry for the bad pic ,my kid dosent seem to understand the words "Go find my camera!" so here it is with phone.Its under actinics because i couldnt find my Digital camera befor MH went off.

It could be a number of things, but most likely it getting used to the lights. Give it some time and if it browns out, then something would be wrong.

Browning out is typically a sign of stress. Do you know if it was a freshly cut frag? Was it colored up when you bought it??

No it wasnt a freshly cut frag but the place i got it has a huge sps tank with light up in the air a few feet ,so it is possible it is getting used to the lighting.i placed it at the bottom of my DT to see if that helps.It was a tad on the brown side when i got it as well,it just seemed to be getting darker brown.Then maybe again i might just be parinoid as it is my first sps.

I asked the sales guy where i should place it in tank with the lights i have and he told me around 10".After i placed it in tank i started thinking ....ya know maybe i need to start drip acclimating my coral and start everything off at bottom of DT.Im trying NOT to kill any Coral or fish so i guess maybe i should be alot more careful.

Try not to move it around, it will add to its stress. I've had frags fall off the rack and turn brown within an hour. As long as it wasnt harmed or shocked it will color backup.

Should i place it back to where i had it then ,or just leave it be now?

One more thing ,is browning typical for new sps?
Browning is a common sign of stress, It's only happened 2-3 times to me. Ive fragged several pieces without them even flinching. Leave it where it is for now and make sure nothing can bother it.
