New hobbyist's first tank!! (90 gallons)

Hey guys, so I finally got around to snappin some photos of my tank. I've been meaning to do it for a while but anyways, here ya go...please feel free to comment or offer advice on what I should stock it with.
Current aquarium critters include:
-2 False Percs
-3 Zebra Bar Gobies
-1 Royal Gramma
I was thinking about adding some hermitt crabs and cleaner shrimp pretty soon along with probably a dwarf angel or some blennies, dont know yet...

front view as you walk in the front door to my house

The stand was originally a cherry oak finish but it had salt creep everywhere so I sanded and painted black. I also added the tiling around the canopy.

The tank has about 60 lbs of live sand and 70 lbs live rock. I plan to add another 25-30 lbs live rock in about 2 or 3 weeks.

My royal gramma. His name is Stewart and he is a rather shy little fella, but I still love him!

My two false percula clownfish...they wuv each other, although I dont think either one has sexually matured yet lol

The clowns are the only fish in my tank thus far that aren't shy. My 3 zebra gobies are still getting used to their new home and they seem to really like all the sand they now have to burrow in lol. I can see the reflection of them swimming freely when I peek around the corner but as soon as I walk past the aquarium they dart back under their favorite rock lol.

Nice start. Wait'll you get alot of coraline growth. I used artificial plants, also, until I got my coral in and growing. BTW that's a really nice stand.

Thank you! I bought it from my moms boss...For just $200 he sold me the tank, the stand, two canister filters (I only use one and keep the other for a back up) and a crap load of fake corals that I threw away.

Heres some pics of my filtration...

My Fluval 404 canister filter along with my 20gal wet/dry filter and seaclone 100 skimmer(i hate it, works terribly...as soon as I can afford it I am replacing with a better skimmer)

Better shot of the wet/dry filter and protein skimmer. Im not sure what type of return pump I have but I know its in the 500-600 gph range.

Another shot of the canister filter.

Not a great shot, but I'm glad to see that my zebra gobies are starting to come out and play

Here is a slightly better shot of them

Thought I would add some pics of my yorkie. Her name is Macy and she is ALWAYS the center of attention. (at least according to her)...

She gets real bummed out when I play with the fishies and not her...

So I have to entertain her every once in a while...

Her favorite pastime is to sit and look out the window and bark at "things" (anything really: birds, squirrels, people, cars, etc.)

After 30 minutes of terrorizing the neighborhood, it's time for nap number five

nice tank! what are you using for lights?
also, what media are you using in your fluval?
IMO, i would def try to get rid of the bio balls, create a refugium in that section, id ditch the canister filter, or run it with only carbon bags..saves you the hassle when it is time to clean out your fluval

The lightsource is simply a 40watt fluorescent that they guy sold with the tank. It does the job but i will eventually be upgrading to a reef tank so as soon as my wallet allows it I'm gonna get some better lighting...

As far as the refugium thing, I'm a little confused about all that. Is that just like a seperate place to put live rock??
And the fluval is already mostly carbon bags with one tray of the Biomax. I cant see ditching it alltogether though because it is my main source of mechanical filtration.

I would never think of stealing a dog...lol. That is the dog I want one day...right now I have an extremely jealous springer spaniel. Will have to wait on the yorkie.

I also have a 90g, there is a reason your moms boss used two canisters. I use two as well. When you clean one filter, the other maintains the good bacteria to keep the tank healthy. Otherwise you will have an ammonia spike when you clean the filter.
A backup makes no sense. Use your filters. Also when you clean them don't rinse the pads or bio balls (media) in freshwater, use saltwater. Replace the white filament.

Hmmm...I see what your saying. The main reason I havent used the other canister yet is because the hose for it is broken and I have yet to replace it. As far as maintaining the good bacteria, I thought the bio-balls in the wet/dry were also good for colonizing nitrifying bacteria, right?? So then by staggering the cleaning of my canister and my wet/dry, it should have the same effect shouldnt it??
Anyways, thanks for the advice, and I probably will install the other canister in the next few weeks.

So you have a filter besides the canisters? I have only the two canisters. So you should be fine then. I love my 90g. I think youy are going to be happy with it.
Unless the I want bigger bug gets you! LOL

I like spaniels...cool dogs. Although, my neighbors use to have one that was pretty vicious to say the least. He used to sneak out of his backyard and bite people lol. I remember one day this kid, probably 4 or 5 yrs old, was riding his bike past the dog, and it started chasing him. Eventually the dog caught up, bit his leg, and caused him to crash into the pavement scraping his face on the sidewalk.
Needless to say the parents sued, and now that I think about it, I never saw that dog again....

Lol when my mom told me her boss was selling his tank I told her to ask him how big it was. He said he didn't know for sure but that it had to be AT LEAST 150g.
Lol so when I heard that I jumped at the chance to buy it. When we went to pick it up and I realized it wasnt 150, I was a little bummed at first but quickly changed my mind.
Considering everything that he was giving me for only 200 bucks, it was too hard to pass up. I mean, just one of the fluval filters ALONE costs like 250.
