I already set up my chillers with new calcium reactors on my tanks. I have one tank which is not doing so well and I think that it is due to high phosphates and/or nitrates (i have not tested yet). At any rate, rather than dismantling the calcium reactor and adding filter media to denitrify and dephosphate the water, I was wondering if I could simply add this to the protein skimmers which I have installed on each tank. The principle behind this is that the water would be treated and I would not have to add another piece of equipment to the tank or modify the present equipment. The only issue that I foresee is that the addition of media to the protein skimmer may interfere with the tunneling of water bubbles which skim the protein particles. What does everyone think?
