New Jawfish

Well i guess this question can go here. I just got a jawfish and watchman goby. They are in the Q tank but the jawfish doesn't look like he likes it. It only has 2 pieces of pvc and a piece of lr from the sump for hiding. Will he settle down and how will these guys handle hypo? The jawfish has already tried to drill a hole through the board covering the tank. The goby looks great, he is nice and calm but the jawfish is spooked in there. I guess only time will tell.

Hi,
From what I know about Jawfish, they need a fine, deep substrate that they can bury themsleves in and make a borrow, they like to dig and hide. Your jawfish may be havng an adverse reaction due to the fact that there is no sand for it to call home. I'm really not sure what to do about it though, as I've never kept them myself or tried to QT them. Are you treating them for a disease now? Also, are you planning on adding them to your display tank? What's in there now? If he's getting stressed by lack of sand, you may want to go ahead and add him to your tank early, but then you risk adding a sick fish which would be a gamble. Maybe someone else can offer a better opinion about QT'ing jawfish?...

doza is right, the jawfish is likely upset because of the lack of substrate. You can try placing some sand from your main tank in the QT to help ease the transition.
Niether fish are adversely effected by hyposalinity.

I figured it was to do with sand. I was looking up old post last night and some people say specific depths of sand. I've got 3 to 4 inches at different places around the tank. I'm sure he will like it in there. I'm just worried about him not making it there. You can tell he is all stressed out.

well at my lunch break today i took 2 cups of sand from the sump and put them in the corner of the Qt tank. It is held in the corner with the piece of rock i have. I didn't want to take any more sand than that. The jawfish is at the other side of the tank just curled up in a ball. Neither of the fish have eaten anything yet. I watched them pick stuff out of the water at the lfs so i know they were eating when i got them.
