like the title says, im having a problem choosing, a good laptop or a Canon Rebel XTi. so im asking you what would you pick? here are the rules
when you pick, if you already have one or the other, pretend you dont and what would you get then.
remember, i am young, so both of these are very 'usable'
dont ask what kind of laptop, just one around the 900dollar price range.
dont just choose because you already have one or the other, like said above, just pretend you dont have either.
thanks for all your time and effort, i will update on which i bought, maybe in late july. lol
PS, im trying to convince my aunt that i need a laptop for school so she buys me that and i can go ahead and buy myself a XTi. sound like a plan

If you are young, as you say, I would get the laptop. Especially if you're still in school. Now if your Aunt springs for the laptop, you won't need to make the choice! I love my laptop a lot more than my Kodak digital (which is very nice). I wouldn't have anywhere to store the pix if I didn't have it!

I also vote for the lap top. I've had mine (HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC) for over a year and that's all I use now. My old desktop is being used by my husband now, so we have our own computers. I LOVE mine, and I take it everywhere. I also have a Nikon Coolpix S3 camera (around $200 or so) and I'm always taking pics and then inserting the memory chip into my laptop and then of course downloading pics to this site.
I will never own a desktop again, they are kind of hard to take with you on vacation.

yea, darn those desktops! so big, you would look so retarded at the beach with one of those things. lol.
when i go on vacations , it would be nice to have something to keep me occupied. hmm.......... (deep in thought)
i got it, i may just tell my aunt, well, if you want me to do better and get more orginized in my school work, get me a laptop, and i will pay for say, 200? then i can still buy a camera! wow im smart(and kidish)... now wait till my dad gets home so i can get a phone #

LOL there is a reason its cheaper..QUALITY..Olympus has VERY limited lens collection. It also uses a sensor that is a 2x crop wich will make trying to find a ultra wide for it very difficult. Plus the 2 lens you get are most likely gonna be sub par. Stick with the canon Industry leader in Sensor technology is the leader in the DSLR world as well.
Once again Megapixles mean garbage. You can cram 8MP of garbage or 10mp of garbage..its gonna be garbage. Anything over 4mp is all anyone really needs unless they like to crop alot or blow up their pics super big.

i like to blow up images, up to 8x10(something like that), or maybe one poster size of my 3 year old brother and put it on his wall.

I was just stating MP is almost one of the least important things to think about when buying a Digi cam.
2mp is plenty for an 8x10 but its all about the sensor not how many pixels
