New light??

I recently bought a 125 gallon and am turning it into a reef tank. i have heard that if i use a 6 foot light that it could cause shadows and is not as effective. I was thinking about getting 2 36" fixtures.
1-250 mh
2 96 watt pc
4 lunars
Would that be better. any suggestions would help thanks.

If you plan the placement of your rock and corals properly a 6 foot combo would be just as effective and less expensive than two 36 inch fixtures IMO.

Do i have to have a metal halide or will a t5 work just as well?

You're always gonna have shadows becuase of the bracing on the tank, assuming it it a glass tank...buy a 6ft fixture with 3-250w MH and some vho's

t5 with individual reflectors will work just as well as mh.
