I took out my extreme novas T5 - 2 @ 54W 10,000K and installed 2 new MH 250 watt lights and some of my corals are starting to look really bad. Monti cap and candy canes turning white and my zoas half are opening and half are not and some are starting to melt away. I am also having a lot of bubbles coming up from the sand too. The new lights have been in for 7 days now and I started the MH for 2 hrs the 1st day and increased each day I am now up to 4 hrs per day now and I have the t5 actinic's on for 10 hrs. Did I sunburn my corals? oh another thing is the water temp has gone up from 80 to 82/83 waiting to install chiller to take care of that but could the 2/3 increase cause the coral or bubble problem? I have read that the bubbles coming from the sand could mean I have a cyano outbreak in my future
is there anything I can do to stop this?

yea bubbles are a cyno thing..more flow in that spot will help that.
Man going from that T5 light to 500w of halide is a HUGE jump..I know you only did it so many hours a day building up but might have to move even slower now...others use a few screens on top of the tanks and stack them and remove one a day till all are gone.

I agree you are shocking your whole system with that massive increase in light. You need to put some screens over it to diffuse the intensity or it will all perish. The bubbles are a cyano thing but can also just be the fact that the algae and bacterias you have in the sand bed are increasing their aerobic breakdown ten fold due to the increase. Good luck!
